Fool's Ivory - Mystery Flesh Pit National Park Fan Creation

Time span: 1 day

This art piece depicts a brood of Fool's Ivory - my original, fan created species designed around the analog horror project "Mystery Flesh Pit National Park" by Trevor Roberts, A.K.A StrangeVehicles. The human's costume designs, along with the larger organism (the Permian Basin SuperOrganism) are all property of Trevor Roberts.

This species lives in broods within the larger Permian Basin SuperOrganism as parasites. They evolved from an ancient orthoconic nautiloid. They embed themselves into the organism via long tentacles, leaving only their tooth-like shell exposed. This gives them the common name "Fool's Ivory" - explorers of the Permian Basin Super Organism might foolishly believe they have come across valuable ivory growths, but this creature's shell is deceptively thin and has little actual value.

Fool's Ivory stay still as they attempt to camouflage themselves as an otherwise dangerous mastication gullet, but if one is disturbed, the entire brood quickly ejects from its lodgings, and flails their over-long, intestine-like tentacles to startle attackers. They can drop and re-grow a tentacle if it is seized or eaten, allowing most of the brood to successfully escape to a new alcove with most of their limbs intact.
